Favorite Place Poem

 Anticipation

Dark
Dark night
Waiting for the sun to rise

Cool
Cool morning
Watching the parents sleep

Fun
Fun morning
Presents all around the tree

Bright
Bright paper
All scattered among the floor

Finally
Finally awake
Open the presents

Cool
Cool gifts
That every child loves

White
White snow
Too cold to go outside

Hot
Hot chocolate
That melts in your mouth

Red
Red and green
The colors of my favorite holiday

Colored
Colored paper
Lined up among the tree

Twinkling
Twinkling lights
And blue bulbs to make it sparkle

Warm
Warm fire
And stockings hanging above it

Christmas
Christmas morning
My favorite place to be

Thursday December 13th

Hey!!!

Happy Thursday. Today in our first 3 classes we learned a lot. In Geography we learned about what happened in the Middle East. In Reading, we talked about our essay questions for the Book Thief.

Book Thief Review Questions

In English, we looked at the song Firework by Katy Perry. Then we used our poetry themes to decide what each line means in the song. Mrs. Morrow then showed us the video of the tornado that tore apart the whole school.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I believe that many magazines are contributing to the depression of teens because of how they look. This is a very important subject to me because I feel sorry for many teens that go through this depression.

Did you know that many of these cases of depression are caused by family members and editing of the magazine? I want to change the way people think about themselves so that the family of the teen or teens won’t want the teen to go through this and the family will be a strong, healthy one. Also, I believe that magazines should leave models the way they are because they are beautiful, even without digital retouching.

I also found that nine out of every ten women and or teens are insecure about themselves when they look at an ad in a magazine article or a  cover image. Teens will try anything to get thin or be pretty like the model. For example, anorexia or even committing suicide to get themselves out of the depression. I feel that teens need to be confident for later in life. Confidence in yourself will decrease due to body image feelings.

I would like to get the point across that beauty is more than skin deep. What I mean by that is I want to tell everyone that it doesn’t matter what is on the outside, but on the inside that counts. People can do many things to get through this depression. For starters, you can go to a counselor, therapist, or even your own parents can help you with this depression.

Blogger For Monday, October 22

Hey this is Allison with Mondays Report. In fourth period reading, we worked on our bookmarks. We discussed and had a lot of fun with leaders for each book. In sixth period, we worked on our Patriots Pen Essay. I choose for my topic Living the American Dream. Also, in third period we got topics about our chapter. We had a lot of fun today. Oh, and I forgot about basketball. In basketball we worked on dribbling skills and layups. Drills are super fun also. We worked on "Blue Game." Blue game is a play that we know very well. Luckily, it wasn't boring, it was really fun. See you soon.

Husker Spirit

I am from a sea of red and white,
watching the Nebraska Huskers play on Saturday night.

I am from loses and wins
and people wearing bright red pins

I am from people cheering loud
watching football in the crowd.

I am from coaches and cleats and the brown football
making the mark of the referee’s call.

I am from the yellow flag on the ground
waiting for the players to go for the ball in a bound

Memoir

Sisters at Heart
By Allison Ludwig
“What! No, no! Why is this happening to me?” I said to my mom as she told me the news. As she told me, cold, salty tears that burned my face left trails on my cheeks. I can’t believe it. My best friend was leaving. From sisters at heart to sisters apart? No, that’s not how it’s supposed to be. We were supposed to be together forever and now she was leaving? Well, I guess it was maybe for the best. No its not! Her dad got a promotion, which was good for him, but her leaving felt wrong. No more pretending and dressing up, no more singing to Hannah Montana, no more picnics in the park. What was I going to do without her? Facing the facts that there was no way to change her parent’s mind made it even harder.
The month before she moved went as quick as a blink. I went to her little blue house, helped her pack all of her clothes and furnishings, and we cried for so long, that every time we saw each other, we wept. The day before they left was really hard for both me and her. We did our dance and our special handshake; I mean what best friends don’t have a handshake? Then, the heart wrenching, tear trailing goodbyes. Out of tears, sobs, and sniffling noses, we both came out to say our “Goodbyes” and “I will miss you.”
After they had settled in to their new house in Sioux Falls, we went to see them for a day. We went to the mall, and messed around at her house all day. But then, another heart break. We got a Christmas letter in the mail saying, “Dear friends and family, I must tell you the good news and the bad news. The good news it Jeff got a promotion. Then the bad news. His promotion… is in Texas. In a week we will be moving.” Ok, so I guess maybe it’s good news. “I don’t know, maybe this is a sign we shouldn’t be friends.” I thought
“Mom! Mom, um… Haley is well… moving…again.” The look on my mom’s face said that we weren’t going to see them before they left for Kingsville.
In Texas, they moved into an amazing home. They had a pool, a four bedroom, four-bathroom house and luckily she got a phone so we could talk. We then found out about two months later that they had moved on the ranch. There house there doesn’t have a pool, but it is a lot fancier. Kingsville, Texas is about an hour from the Mexican border and about 19 hours from here. The closer they moved to Mexico, the farther they moved from me.
We talk and text each other almost everyday. Even though she isn’t here with me right now, she is really still with me. We are best friends, and we won’t change it as long as we live. After all, sisters at heart can be apart, even if it is more than one thousand miles away.

CBL Project Overview

My CBL Project Overview

In English class, we are working on a CBL project, which is called, Write to Change the World. “I wish I could be pretty, or cute, or more appealing…” CORRECTION!!! You are pretty. You are cute. You are appealing. We want to reverse people thinking they aren’t perfect or pretty. Body image is our topic and it is super important to me and my community. Our Essential Question is "How can we change when people look at a magazine and see a model.  They think they have to look like that model in order to be beautiful?" The issue at hand is that when people look in the mirror they think they are ugly, fat, and all in all not beautiful. In most cases though, this is not the problem. They look at magazines and think in order to be beautiful they have to look like the model on the cover. Many magazine companies edit people so much, that they look like angels and fake, when in reality, they are beautiful without editing.

This issue is important to me because many people don't think they are beautiful. I have been told many times that 9 out of 10 girls think that they are ugly. A lot of the girls in my community look at themselves and say that they are ugly or weird looking. Many girls actually get sick in order to be thin or to be pretty, redo themselves with loads of makeup. Boys however also get sick, by getting sick I mean when they eat, they throw it up or they don’t eat altogether. Many people die from getting sick. Sadly, the only reason that they get sick… is because of this issue. This issue has impacted me because many girls and boys have tried or committed suicide, which is really depressing to parents and/or friends that are close to the victim.

In this project I hope to accomplish spreading the word to let everyone know that the face on the magazine is not actually how he or she looks. I want to let people know, no matter if you think you are ugly, weird or funny looking, you are beautiful because you are you and you shouldn’t change how you look. I want to tell everyone that those people on the magazine cover are fake. They are edited way too much. You look exactly like them inside. In conclusion, I want everyone to wake up in the morning and say" Wow, look at me. I'm beautiful!"
